Homework

At JKHA, we view homework as an integral part of education. Learning requires review and practice of material teachers have already covered, as well as opportunities for critical thinking and writing. We recognize the many variables involved with homework assignments-children’s interest, as well as their attention spans, ability to work independently, and organizational skills- vary greatly.

We ask parents to work as partners with us in encouraging students to fulfill their homework assignments. Further, we urge you to encourage your children to complete their assignments themselves.

Meaningful homework includes:

- Completion of assignments started in class
- Practice and application of a newly acquired skill
- Work on independent tasks
- Work on tasks with parental guidance and input
- Pursuit of creative projects and self-directed activities
- Research
- Review of material prior to class discussion and/or exams

Every student should designate a friend or neighbor to record his/her homework assignments in case of absence. All requests for such assistance must be phoned in to the School Office before 11:00 a.m., to ensure that this process will benefit your children.

Please note that continued failure to complete homework assignments will seriously impede a child’s academic progress.
