Chesed

Chesed Committee
On a number of occasions throughout the year, this committee plans and implements chesed projects that are designed to involve the entire school community in a particular cause. Committee members research the project and design ways to inform, motivate and involve as many people as possible.

Israel Affairs Committee
As Medinat Yisrael is a major focus in the mission statement of our yeshiva, it is critical that we are constantly aware of our connection to our true homeland. Israel must constantly be on our minds. Each Friday, after t’filah, one student speaks for 3-5 minutes and briefs the students on the current events taking place in Israel. Each student attempts to share a political, social and “fun” story. Instilling a sense of ownership on the student’s end is most effective in raising everyone’s consciousness of all of Eretz Yisrael’s happenings.

8 Ways in 8 Days
During Chanukah, each of grade performs a different type of chesed for a different sector of the population. In most year’s the 8th grade packages food at the New Jersey Food Bank in Hillside while the 7th grade cooks Shabbat meals for Tomchei Shabbat. This past year the 6th grade put together packages for our US soldiers serving our country in Iraq. On Chanukah, when we are all used to receiving gifts, we hope to add to the chag and have our students give gifts as well.
