Special Programs
Color War
Color War is one of MS’s finest weeks. The entire MS is divided into 3 teams and compete in trivia games, sports competitions, bracha bees, dance, art and skit competitions. There is always a theme to the events such as last year’s shalosh regalim (Pesach, Shavuot and Sukkot) theme. It is a time of great camaraderie, teamwork and sportsmanship. It is a time when students become closer and friendships are made between kids in all 3 middle school grades.
HS Prep Program
This unique program for eighth graders takes place during the week immediately preceding the BJE exam. The day is devoted to sessions on interviewing skills as well as on specific test-taking skills that will assist them on their upcoming exam. Students are also exposed to a HS level shiur from one of our excellent RKYHS educators. Finally, they have the opportunity to take a mock BJE exam getting themselves ready for their “big day”.
Israel Night
Each Spring the students participate in an Israel night where they are able to play sports with their friends, watch a move, enjoy a delicious BBQ, and raise lots of money for the country they love. A terrific night is planned but for the fun, they need to raise some money for Israel. This year the MS raised $1000 that is being used to purchase school supplies for indigent Israeli children, so they can have the same cool binders and folders as we have.
Yachad Shabbaton
Each year the 8th grade students have the amazing opportunity to spend Shabbat with not only their friends, but with youngsters from Yachad, an organization for special children. All share a wonderful experience singing, dancing, sharing Divrei Torah, just “hanging out” and making new friends. This is always one of the highlights of each 8th student’s senior year.
Yom Hashoah/Yom Hazikaron/ Yom Ha’atzmaut/Yom Yerushalayim
For each of these days, programs are designed to connect the students to the importance of the day religiously, intellectually and emotionally. We have created fairs, listened to speakers, enjoyed chagiga, put on plays and dances, watched real footage of some of the memorable moments and with the help of the newest technology spoke to Israeli students and communicated with them about how they celebrate and connect to these days.
