Student Activities
Chess Club
The Chess Club is one of our school’s finest co-curricular activities. Chess Club is open to all participants and meets twice a month. It is a wonderful way for our 6th graders to become friendly and interact with our 7th and 8th graders. Additionally, we compete against our neighbors, Newark Academy.
Chidon HaTanach
Chidon HaTanach, the National Bible Contest, is a great club for all those who love to study Torah and expand their knowledge of Tanach. The contest consists of two stages, the regional stage, and the national stage. Winners are rewarded with a trip to Eretz Yisrael to compete in the international Bible Contest held on Yom Ha’atzmaut in Yerushalayim.
Drama
Each spring JKHA Middle School students produce their own dramatic presentation. Theatre allows its participants to explore various characters and settings. We have seen that not only are the productions magnificent, but the level of bonding a camaraderie that is created, makes this experience extremely valuable.
Middle School News
Our school’s newspaper, provides students with an opportunity for fun and experience in research and writing. The paper includes articles on school news, opinion pieces, news on Israel, hilarious cartoons, sudokus, a MS poll and much more. Members are encouraged to develop article ideas, discuss current events and improve writing techniques and everyone gets a chance to write an article.
Mishmar
Mishmar affords our students the opportunity to learn Torah in an informal and relaxed atmosphere. Once a week, our 7th and 8th grade students study the upcoming week’s parsha either b’chavruta or in a chabura style. This club affords the participants to be both learners and teachers.
Round Table
Student and teacher representitives meet on a monthly basis in a roundtable forum to discuss and develop ideas for the middle school. The students provide the teachers with the "pulse" of the student body and bring their concerns and questions to the meetings. The teachers use this as an opportunty to see the school policies through the eyes of the students. It gives eveyone a chance to express their feelings and understand the other's viewpoint in a friendly, warm, calm atmosphere.
Torah Bowl
Torah Bowl is a competition where students from schools all over NY Metropolitan area compete to be crowned masters of Chumash. In essence, it is Torah College Bowl. This club is extremely time consuming but nevertheless, enormously rewarding, as each child learns an entire sefer of Chumash, with Rashi, in one school year.
Yearbook
Working on the 8th grade yearbook is both an exciting and fulfilling experience. The yearbook consists of different groups of editors who are in charge of putting together a select piece of the school yearbook. This is a wonderful opportunity for anyone interested in writing, and graphic design. Students that are a part of the yearbook staff help to create memories that will be remembered forever.
