Technology
At JKHA Middle School, technology is integrated by every teacher of every class, both general and Judaic studies. Each teacher incorporates technology into at least one project each semester. This method encourages a student to learn and utilize skills in real life situations. When a student needs to create a newspaper or magazine for an English or History class, the skills required can be learned and incorporated into the students’ knowledge base because the skills had a real application. The same is true for using PowerPoint for presentations for the Car Project or Microsoft Word for an English assignment or Microsoft Excel for a Budget in math class or typing in Hebrew when producing a piece of writing to be included in the 8th grade yearbook. Students complete eighth grade with the knowledge to use the computer technology and to decide when and what technology will be beneficial to them and when it is not necessary. Using these methods of integration,we teach them the advantages and disadvantages of using books verses Internet sources. We teach them how to evaluate Internet sources and how to be safe while surfing the Internet. Computers and technology are a ubiquitous part of life and we teach our students how to succeed in the real world utilizing technology properly to gain from what it has to offer in various situations.
