Rabbi Dr. Steven M. Dworken Zt"l Achdut Yisrael Society

Rabbi Dr. Steven M. Dworken zt"l
Known as "the rabbi's rabbi", Rabbi Dworken was widely recognized for his extraordinary work with rabbis across the spectrum. As Executive Vice President of the Rabbinical Council of America, he served his constituents, America’s Orthodox rabbis, with exceptional skill and sincerity, as well as wisdom and humor. A true disciple of Aharon, Rabbi Dworken was famous for his lifelong commitment to bringing all Jews together and bringing them closer to Torah.  To honor his memory, and to inspire our students to follow his exceptional example, JKHA established the Rabbi Dr. Steven M. Dworken Achdut Yisrael Society in the spring of 2003. Each year, up to ten 5th through 8th graders are selected by faculty to receive the Rabbi Dworken Award. It is presented to students who exemplify the Midot of Achdut (Unity), Ahavat Yisrael (Love of Israel), and Menschlichkeit (Good Character). Students are chosen based on their exemplary moral and ethical conduct. The new inductees are recognized yearly at the Annual Achdut Yisrael Society Memorial Lecture, and their names are inscribed on the Wall of Honor gracing the Feldman Lobby. The creation and perpetuation of the Society underscores JKHA’s commitment to its Core Values and the focus on Midot and Mitzvot of Bein Adam L’Chavero (Man to Man). Funds donated to the Society help underwrite faculty professional growth as well as school activities that further the goals of the Society.

About the Artwork
“Be a student of Aharon, lover of peace, chaser of peace, lover of mankind, bringing people closer to the Torah” (Avot 1:12)
The hills, walls and people of Jerusalem symbolize Rabbi Dr. Steven M. Dworken’s zt"l deep love for the land of Israel and his fellow Jew. The different people represent each of us, unique in our own way, yet Rabbi Dworken accepted and loved each Jew for who they were—he focused on what united us as a nation. His commitment to Torah is shown by the Torah lifted above our heads. And, above all, the dove reminds us of his elevating, gentle manner and the dignity that he brought to us in his search for true peace for all.
